Meter chain and Passport bridge exploit (2026-09-23): unbacked MTR/MTRG minted, 1B wMTRG on BNB Chain, two attacker addresses per Blackpaper
- Scam type: Hack
- Chain: EVM (Ethereum, BNB Chain, Base and other EVM chains)
- Project or site name: Meter (MTR / MTRG, Passport bridge)
- Incident date: 2026-09-23
- Reported: 2026-10-23
- Last updated: 2026-10-23
Blackpaper's analysis says Meter's blockchain accepted an attacker-signed chain beginning at block 100731418 on 2026-09-23, which allowed arbitrary MTR and MTRG to be minted, and that its Passport bridge then carried assets from that corrupted state to other chains, including 1 billion unbacked wMTRG minted on BNB Chain. Meter has attributed the incident to a block validation flaw and paused the chain and the bridge.
